Why I Left the Bank

Hi there.

If you’re reading this then you probably gathered that I’m no longer working at the bank - “Surprise!” - it’s in the title.

If you’re one of my peers, I want you to know that I’m so grateful I got to work alongside you. I was consistently thankful throughout my time at the bank that I got to work with ethical, honest, hard-working people who care about the families that they are working with. It’s not as common as it should be in this industry, and I really appreciate your integrity.

If you are one of the many families I got to know there, I’m going to miss talking with you. The path of connecting, learning and educating that I walked with so many people was truly rewarding. I am blessed by how close I got with so many of you. We shared some wonderful seasons of life, and moved through many difficult chapters too. Thank you for your trust. It was a pleasure to be in a position to advise you.

I’m grateful for my time at the bank. Now it's time for me to start the next chapter of my life.

I am embarking on the scariest endeavor I’ve undertaken - starting my own business. Many of you have probably already gone through this, and might recall what it feels like. It’s terrifying, for those of you who don’t know. I’m so scared. Yet I am overflowing with excitement at the opportunity.

As I go through the steps to build this new thing I hope I’ll have the opportunity to share it with you. It’s still in the early stages so there are many things that I won’t be able to share today. There are steps I’ve got to follow, and I’m sorry I can’t be more transparent.

What I can say is that this opportunity is something that I wasn’t able to do while working in my role at the bank. There are differences, (and not necessarily bad ones), to a small business and a large institution. Some of those differences became challenging on a personal level.

Ultimately, this chance is too good for me to pass up. I feel called to move in this direction, even though it’s scary. There just won’t be a perfect time to take the leap and try to start something completely different. What I’m building is different from anything else that’s out there right now. And I think that as we move forward it’s something that will start to become the norm for many families.

If you’d like to have a conversation please feel free to shoot me an email at ian@entrustedstewardship.com, and we can set up a time to connect for lunch, coffee or even a quick conversation.

I wish everyone the very best of luck, and hope I get to remain a part of your lives as we go forward. Until next time, God Bless.
